Thank you to those who provided feedback about the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Recreation Centre.
Community feedback was used to inform the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Recreation Centre Review document which was presented to Council at its September meeting.
A brief snapshot of some of community feedback demonstrated:
- 78.8% of respondents are satisfied with the centre.
- The two highest uses are health and fitness activities (memberships) and then social sports.
- The predominant ages that use the facility were 5-11, 35-49 and 12-17, indicating families.
Centre operations
With regards to the operation of the Centre, Council endorsed the following recommendation:
Requests the Chief Executive Officer commence a tender process in December 2021 for the external Management and Operation of the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Recreation Centre, with key terms to address the following:
a. 5 Year term with a 3 year option;
b. All maintenance to be undertaken by the Shire;
c. Respondent to outline approach for management of all internal/loose equipment (including servicing) within the submission and for the term of the contract;
d. Signage on the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Recreation Centre to be at Respondents cost, co-branded and approved by Shire;
e. Tender documents to address recommendations within the Review that will improve future contract arrangements and community outcomes.
f. Maintaining key operational arrangements, including Local Emergency Management requirements.
Shire staff are undertaking the necessary work relating to the above items.
Facility maintenance
With regards to maintenance of the Centre, Council made the following decisions:
Allocated $60,000 from the Shire’s Building Asset Management Reserve to address outcomes of the Building Condition Audit & Life Cycle Costing report at the Centre.
Endorsed the prioritisation of works on the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Recreation Centre as follows (following completion of the State Funding Agreement works), to address outcomes of the Building Condition Audit & Life Cycle Costing report (excluding Climbing Wall items):
a. Defects.
b. Urgent repairs identified and Optional Capital Works (2021 and 2022).
c. Asset Renewals (2021 and 2022).
Council endorsed nine recommendations relating to the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Recreation Centre at its September meeting.
