Outcome

At a meeting on 20 February 2023, Council resolved to make an application to the Minister for a determination pursuant to Section 6.28 (1) of the Local Government Act 1995, to change the method of valuation of land to be used by a local government as the basis of rates for 623 properties from Unimproved Value (UV) to Gross Rental Value (GRV) as the predominant use of the land for these properties has been determined by Officers to be non-rural.

The remaining 39 properties were identified as predominantly used for rural purposes and are undergoing further review.

A further report will be taken to Council on conclusion of this review.

Background

As part of the Shire's rating strategy, we reviewed properties which are currently classified as Unimproved Values (UV) to determine if they can be reclassified as Gross Rental Values (GRV) to ensure their classification best represents them.

Identified rate payers were sent a letter informing them of the proposed change for their property and a land use declaration form for them to provide feedback on the proposal. If you do not receive a letter from the Shire, your property will not be affected by the proposed changes. A copy of the letter sent to affected rate payers can be viewed under the "Documents" section of this website.

Consultation commenced on Monday, 19 December 2022 and closed on 27 January 2023.
