Background:

By way of background, the site contains a granite quarry which operated in the 1960s and 1970s. No rehabilitation of the site has occurred since the cessation of the quarrying activities in the 1970s. Development approval was granted in 2005 for works to rehabilitate the site, however these were not advanced.

The works seek to both make safe and rehabilitate the site in two stages:

  • Stage 1 includes the reclamation of historically quarried rock which would be recycled and reused for other construction projects as well as the collection of fine materials to be retained on site and used for rehabilitation of the quarry voids.
  • Stage 2 includes the re-contouring of the site and backfill of the quarry pit voids with imported fill. Following, topsoil would be spread, and landscaping undertaken. The applicant has provided updated rehabilitation plans to support the application.
  • Hours of operation are proposed from 7:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday, and 7:00am-12:00pm Saturdays (excluding public holidays).
  • The transportation of materials would be undertaken on a campaign basis over a period of approximately 12 months. During this time, it is anticipated that there would be up to 20 truck movements per day.
