Development Application

Background

The Shire has received a development application for which comments are sought for a Concrete Manufacturing Facility currently operating in the southern portion of Lot 60 Robertson Road, Cardup.

The facility currently manufactures and supplies engineering products for infrastructure, mining, marine and rail construction projects for which this application seeks retrospective approval.

In addition, the application seeks to further develop the site to allow for increased manufacturing. The components of the application that already exist onsite are as follows:

  • Concrete Casting Workshop (3,750m2)
  • Two stressing beds and associated gantry cranes
  • Stormwater basin to the west of the site
  • Office and lunchroom

The proposed development comprises of the following components:

  • Car park (120 bays)
  • A V-Drain along the southern boundary leading to the basin
  • A below ground stressing bed and gantry crane located centrally to the site
  • An above ground stressing bed and gantry along the southern boundary (east of the shed)

Precast concrete is poured into a reusable mould, cured and then lifted into place. (Full details of the process is contained within page 11 of the applicant’s report). The throughput varies on market demand however the site has the capacity to produce on average approximately 2000 tonnes of concrete products per day.

Typically, the facility would commence manufacture at 6am until 6pm. There are currently between 60 and 70 staff associated with the overall operations expected to increase over the coming years.

Access to the site is via the existing driveway onto Robertson Road.
