1. What is in the 2015 Climate Change Strategy and Local Action Plan and why does it need to be updated?

The 2015 Climate Change Strategy and Local Action Plan contains:

    • brief background information on climate change and its impacts
    • measures relating to building resilience and flexible policy and management approaches
    • implementation principles
    • a local action plan with 20 strategies

The strategy and action plan needs to be updated because climate science and action changes and develops so fast that the information and actions are out of date and need to reflect current, up-to-date science and action measures.

    Read the strategy here.

    2. What did Council resolve in June 2022?

In June 2022, Council resolved to sign the WALGA Climate Change Declaration, continue to implement and report against the 2015 Climate Change Strategy and Local Action Plan, and develop an updated Climate Change Strategy and Local Action Plan in conjunction with the community.

The Shire President signed the Climate Change Declaration in March 2023. Read the Council Resolution here.

    3. Why is the community being asked for input?

Climate change will continue to have significant effects on the Western Australian environment, society and economy, and the Local Government sector. As a Local Government, it is part of our role to mitigate and manage the impacts of climate change on our community. Council believes that community involvement in the update of the Climate Change Strategy and Local Action Plan will add value to the process and ensure that the final document will help us to collectively manage the effects of climate change.

    4. How will my feedback be used?

Feedback will be collated and used to influence the direction and commitments of the updated Climate Change Strategy and Local Action Plan to reflect the priorities and concerns of the community.

All feedback will be used anonymously.
