Access and Inclusion Advisory Group
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is committed to improving the physical access to our services and facilities, as well as incorporating inclusion at a participatory and service level.
To support and guide us in this area, we have developed an Access and Inclusion Advisory Group made up of Councillors, businesses representatives and community members passionate about delivering better outcomes in the space.
We have also recently launched our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2023 - 2028.
The Access and Inclusion Advisory Group has been operating since 2018 and aims to support the development, implementation, review and evaluation of this strategic plan.
The group also supports the Shire to form positive community partnerships and achieve the objectives of our Strategic Community Plan.

That’s why Hey Lemonade have gathered together a team of compassionate, clever and creative writers to write a series of three minute pep talks that find the ideal balance of perspective and humour.
Designed and owned by Australians they understand that specific situations call for a specific voice. Sometimes you need a warm comforting verbal hug while other times you might feel like you need to be whipped back into a human shape. That’s why Hey Lemonade offer each pep talk in a range of Australian voices.
Voices include:

Share Sport for All on Facebook Share Sport for All on Twitter Share Sport for All on Linkedin Email Sport for All linkTo recognise International Day of People with Disability and encourage all members of our community to be active in sports the Shire is hosting a free Sports for All - Accessible Come and Try event in collaboration with Rebound WA, Volleyball WA and YMCA,Test your skills in a game of seated volleyball and wheelchair basketball and gain insight into what it's like to live with a physical disability.As part of the event, Rebound WA's Clint Morgan will speak about how he came to be in a wheelchair and what everyday life is like for him. Participants will finish off the day with a question and answer session, no question is too big or small, be it disability or sports related.Date: Saturday 3 December 2022

LGBTQ Awareness Session

Lead by an experienced facilitator, this interactive session encourages questions, and discussions are held in a respectful and safe environment.
By the end of the session participants will:
• Understand some of the lived experiences and unique challenges for LGBTQ people and the impact to the workplace
• Understand the diversity of, and differences between sex characteristics, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation
• Understand the business case for LGBTQ inclusion and explain why it is important in a workplace context

Carer Gateway Emergency Respite

It is specifically for those who are experiencing an urgent, unplanned, and imminent event that threatens the health and safety of the carer or care recipient. In these circumstances the carer’s ability to continue caring are restricted and no other services are available.
Eligible circumstances may include:
• Natural disasters requiring evacuation
• Immediate harm to the carer (eg. suicide, family/domestic violence, carer requiring immediate hospitalisation due to accident or illness).
• Mental health conditions necessitating immediate intervention from police or hospital/ mental health facility.
• Homelessness (eg. immediate displacement or eviction).
• Impending legal action of carer (eg. arrest, S.A.T).
• Carer and/or care recipient entering palliative care (outside of government funded palliative care).Emergency respite is implemented within 3 business days of request, for eligible circumstances only.

This workshop is designed to develop the skills of coaches, officials, and committee members to better their practices when working with individuals with a disability and be as inclusive as possible
The program is designed to give you ideas on how to create an inclusive physical activity program for all.
It will compliment your sport whilst engaging a wider membership base.
