Let's talk about the future for People with Disability
Mission Australia are holding two workshops where you can join Community Engagement staff, from the Disability Royal Commission (DRC), for a group chat about what the future should look like for people with disability.
This is an excellent opportunity for people of diverse background who have a disability and or care for a person with a disability to share their ideas.
The DRC want to make this a great experience for you, so.
• We will make time for you to get to know the DRC Staff and other group members with some fun activities
• We will protect your privacy
• We will have free counselling support available if you feel uncomfortable sharing your story or you have any difficult feelings because of the Disability Royal Commission
• We will have regular breaks and provide you with some snacks and drinks
• We will listen to you!
As a group, we will ask you to share your ideas about some of the things below:
• Belonging and Inclusion - Your ideas about improvements needed so that you feel that you belong in your community
• Decision Making- Your experiences of having choice and control over your life
• Education- Your ideas to improve the experiences at School, TAFE or Uni
• Employment- Your experiences and ideas about finding and keeping a job
• Home - What should the future of housing look like for people with disability
• Justice – Your ideas on how to improve experiences for people with disability who are known to the justice system, especially with police response, courts and in prisons
• Health- your experiences and ideas on how to improve health related services for people with disability
The DRC will publish a report of recommendations to the Australian Government in September 2023 about what needs to change to improve the future for people with disability. Your experiences and ideas will help the Disability Royal Commission (DRC) with its work.
